What is granicrete?
Granicrete is a polymer modified concrete mix designed for coating new or existing surfaces, that when applied and colored properly, can simulate virtually any stone, tile or stained concrete.
What colors and patterns are available?
The Granicrete coloring system can produce nearly any color found in nature and since each surface is colored by hand, the possibilities for patterns and color combinations is nearly endless.
Compared to other countertop materials, how durable is it?
Granicrete Countertop
Systems are installed with a commercial grade, non-porous top coat that is food safe, heat
resistant to 500 degrees, and will not crack. It is very stain resistant, repairable, and does
not have to be re-sealed once installed. It also cleans up with standard home products like
409 or Windex type products and a paper towel.
How is it installed?
Our countertop system is a re-surfacing system that is applied in several thin layers over existing Formica®, tile, or natural surface...as well as new construction re-surfacing over a wood base. The coloring is then applied and the top coat to complete the installation.
Are the granicrete countertops suitable for commercial kitchen use?
Absolutely! Granicrete has been USDA approved: "Crystal Top Epoxy will meet the performance requirements to the USDA as a sealer and topcoat for floors, countertops or walls." Also, Crystal Top Epoxy will stand up to rigorous cleaning and dampness and is grease and acid resistant. Unlike granite, granicrete is not porous and will not hold germs and does not need to be resealed.
Can granicrete be used to resurface my current countertops?
The general answer is yes. When we meet with you for your consultation, we will make an assessment of the material and structural integrity of your current countertop to ensure it is suited for granicrete to be applied directly on it. If your current countertops are not suitable, we would be happy to fabricate and install a new countertop for you.
Can I place hot pans / dishes on my granicrete countertop?
We recommend that you DO NOT place hot things such as hot pots directly on any of the countertops we offer. Granicrete is heat resistant; however, this may damage or discolor the top coat. We recommend installing trivets next to the stove to place hot pots and pans on.
How much do granicrete countertops cost?
Granicrete Countertop Systems is install by the square foot at an average of $33 - $36 sqft over surfaces such as Formica®, cultured marble, Silestone®, Corian®, and similiar surfaces. You can expect to pay between $42 - $46 sqft over tiled surfaces and new construction projects. We are happy to work with you and your designer to give you an estimate on your project, and we can help you with options to fit your budget.
