Eco-Friendly Countertops
NW Concrete Interiors has been working on offering a concrete that leaves a smaller carbon footprint. We know that cement is the main ingredient that produces concrete and one of the most abundant resources on the planet. It is recyclable, sustainable and can be used to create beautiful products.
We add “fly ash” (comprised of the non-combustible mineral portion of coal consumed in a coal fueled power plant) to reduce the use of cement in our concrete by 30%. Concrete containing fly ash becomes stronger and more durable. Fly ash particles are hard and round, they have a “ball bearing” effect which allows concrete to be produced using less water. Both characteristics contribute to enhanced concrete workability and resilience thus conserving natural resources resulting in significant energy savings and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
Using recycled glass is another option many of our clients request. This option allows for 80% recycled materials, which can come in a variety of sizes and colors that are custom blended.
We also use recycled concrete as an aggregate manufactured here in Portland, OR. This recycled concrete is obtained from demoed buildings, bridges, curbs, foundations, sidewalks and many other areas that concrete would normally go to waste. By adding recycled concrete to new concrete along with other recycled products makes our standard concrete consist of 42% recycled materials.
Our sealer is EPA and FDA approved for food use and, when requested, we can use a soy based sealer. When the concrete is ready to be re-sealed we are able to come into your home and re-seal without any hazardous and harmful chemicals or fumes.
Just like concrete counters, Granicrete is a custom resurfacing product. Granicrete uses a revolutionary concrete overlay process to resurface existing laminate countertops, tile, solid surface counters and can also be used to design new countertops.
The Granicrete Countertop and Flooring System has the ability to bond to almost any surface (i.e. Formica®, cultured marble, tile, concrete and wood) while removing the need to demo thus offering an eco-friendly resurfacing option you can enjoy for years to come.
